Parsing Trends: Boulder Holder

Yesterday we looked at the tiny bag trend - so today, why not talk about the opposite: Ginormous Boulder Holders?

As Etta pointed out in the comments, we have lots of extremes and contrasts this season! If tiny bags look unfettered and free... you might be able to predict some of what a giant bag suggests...

Positive Connotations

  • Luggage/Travel/Wanderlust
  • Prepared
  • Bold
  • Sturdy/Strong
  • Weighty
  • Unexpected
  • Spontaneous (Can hop on a plane and go)

Negative Connotations

  • Vagabond
  • Needy/High Maintenance
  • Burdened
  • Fettered
  • Ponderous
  • Inflexible (Won't "drop everything" and go)
  • Cartoonish

If you like a larger bag but don't want to be dwarfed by it, you can temper the effect by keeping your bag:

  • Unstructured
  • Mostly empty - don't pack that sucker to bulging!
  • Light/Bright/Shiny
  • Delicate in details like straps, flowers, etc.
  • Lightweight

I have a couple of larger bags that I love for the odd occasion, but even those start to feel burdensome to me as the day wears on, especially when shopping or running errands. However, they can be pretty handy for hot summer days when you need a place to stash your Emergency Arctic Air Conditioning Coverup!

Any takers for this trend? Or do you feel like you need a bag on wheels instead? ;)
