Have you ever seen a garment online and thought, "Holy cats, that is the absolute perfect thing for me... if only it was longer/shorter/more comfortable/a more flattering color/a better fit/better quality/a better deal/not already sold out everywhere??"

Yes? No?

This has happened to me plenty of times in my life, actually, and for once I was finally able to do something about it!

I met Suzzy Canny at a networking event early this year, and we hit it off immediately - no sooner did I tell her my idea for a cropped, sheer, stretchy, seamed moto jacket (very loosely based on this one) than she pulled out a jacket pattern for me to try on and we got to work brainstorming.

I already knew from working with my favorite tailors that any change to a design can greatly impact the final garment - and in this case, I threw so many curve balls at Suzzy that I truly didn't know it would work out. For one, I wanted a very lightweight, gossamer, stretch mesh fabric to somehow support a very heavy, chunky metal zipper!

But Suzzy never gave up on my hairbrained scheme. :) We went shopping for fabric, zippers, and trim together Downtown and got fantastic deals on the lot of it. She carefully measured me and asked how each part of the jacket should fit and hang. We even arranged for her to come to my client's home so that Suzzy could take care of my client's tailoring and sneak in jacket fittings. Now when do you ever hear about a tailor making house calls??

There were a few design changes along the way to boot, including removing the lapel from one side of the jacket, but nothing fazed Suzzy. But in the end, I got just what I wanted: a comfortable, colorful, edgy coverup that fits me perfectly and didn't break the bank. My inspiration would have cost at least $800, but Suzzy's totally custom creation only set me back $200! What a deal for such a priceless, one-of-a-kind item that was made only for me
