Happy Wednesday! Today I'm sharing another vacation outfit in honor of the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend - which is sometimes touted as the last hurrah of summer (and a cue to start making with the transitional Fall dressing).

I knew I wanted to bring some velvet into my life this year - but only if I'd be able to wear it for the bulk of F/W. There have been so many other times when a gorgeous fall item has languished because it was simply too thick to wear except for one frigid week in January. To that end my shopping criteria included:

  • Moderate price
  • Lightweight (possibly unlined)
  • Breathable material
  • Signature color
  • Professional enough cut to wear to work

I needed to hit these notes with my purchase to make sure I would be able to get the most opportunities possible to actually wear it. So I saved myself an Ebay search for a velvet jacket in my size and a range of my signature colors and waited... and waited... and waited... until this amazing jewel popped up!

My Sundance Catalog "Je ne sais quoi" jacket is made of rayon and has a slinky hand and rich color that's so perfect for me I think I squealed a little when I saw it. The blazer-like lapels make it structured enough for work, but the breathe-ably soft material makes it as easy to wear as a linen jacket when our LA temps are still crackling above 80 degrees. Not only that, but the velvet texture helps me participate in a Fall trend earlier than I normally would.

After that, it was only a matter of some chunky mules to balance out the visual weight of the jacket to turn this summer-weight chiffon sundress into a super fun transitional outfit!

I can't wait to wear this velvet wonder with everything from flares to business trousers to skinnies and OTK boots - so get ready to see it in lots of outfit posts straight through February!
