This outfit was all about embracing my feminine side, so I started with this floaty, hot-pink, floral number I picked up at a flea market months ago and have been dying to wear ever since. Even though I can be a hard-core tomboy, this particular dress attracted me for several reasons:
- The bold, unapologetic pink projects enthusiasm and confidence
- The tropical hue and delicate, Asian-inspired florals remind me of my maternal heritage
- The asymmetrical hem portends something unexpected or off-balance
- The floaty fabric suggests an etherial or nymph-like mood
If the dress represents the aspect of femininity that is fragile and mysterious, then the military-inspired jacket and boots represent feminine practicality, strength, fortitude, bravery, ferocity, and general kick-ass-ery.
So I guess on this day, my goal was to celebrate the power of a woman's connection to nature - the cosmic phenomenal cosmic powers that make us go crazy with every cycle of the moon, makes us empathetic and sensitive and sometimes illogical, and allows us to tolerate ridiculous amounts of pain in order to bring life (or art, or whatever we choose) into the world.
