I didn't get to dress up for Halloween this year, but I did have fun with an outfit to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Although I have zero Mexican heritage, I really like the idea of remembering friends and family members who have passed on. It not only helps to keep their memories alive, but it also helps the living to keep focus on what is truly important.
For this outfit, I started with the tank top and skull necklace, since skulls and skeletons are iconic when it comes to the Day of the Dead. Since my workday took me out shopping with a client, I chose to dress up the tank a little bit with my draped skirt and chiffon/velvet jacket - I loved the way the bold, painterly outlining on the jacket mirrors that of the top as well.
I kept the accessories sober and nostalgic, choosing things that looked either worn or vintage-y for a mood of remembrance. I really enjoyed the patina of the bracelet and how it played with the antiqued pewter skull.
On a practical note, I was once again thrilled with my recently-acquired sheer jacket - it really is the perfect answer to summery weather that seems to go on and on and on when all the shops and magazines are showing boots and outerwear!
Mental hugs and kisses to friends, family, and beloved pets on the other side...
