Serenity blue is Pantone's co-color of the year for 2016, said to reflect "a soothing sense of order and peace." Color 15-3919 is a periwinkle-ish, purply-blue that looks fresh with other soft, on-trend shades in the vein of mauve, sage, rose, gray, and taupe. I don't quite own the periwinkle-purple-ish Serenity, but for my closet I'm happy to declare this similarly soft and soothing sky blue Trendy Enough for Me.
When considering the colors of the season, it's always important to take a step back before launching a mission to the mall and make sure of a few things:
- Do I even like this color, or do I just want to feel current?
- If I want to feel current, are there other popular colors that I like better?
- Even if I do like this color, does it look good on me?
- Will this color play well with the rest of my wardrobe?
- If the color does look good on me, do I already own it? Or something similar?
- If the color doesn't flatter me, is there a deeper or lighter shade that will work better?
In my case, I'm especially excited for this round of colors, because I already own an approximation of many of these colors, like Grapecicle, Fig, Lentil Sprout, Lupine, and Arctic - and I had already had a color like Orchid Haze on my shopping list for some time. I definitely look forward to wearing - and finding! - my favorite colors in new combinations.
On the other hand, I will probably steer clear of the palest colors like Cloud Dancer, since true pastels always manage to feel dingy and dirty next to my more saturated coloring. I will also pass on the coral colors that are too warm for my complexion.
How are you guys feeling about this color story? Does it feel too feminine? Are you bored of soft colors appearing every Spring? Or have you been biding your time to bust out some Easter Egg fabulosity?
