PSA: Women Helping Women Quarterly Saturday Sales in OC
This past weekend, my client Jennifer invited me down to a super resale shopping opportunity in Orange County: Women Helping Women's Quarterly Saturday Sale. If you are like me and have not experienced this before, then read on, because it's a lot of fun for a great cause.
WHW's mission is "to provide the unemployed and the underemployed the skills and resources they need to get and keep a good job," and all of the Saturday Sales' proceeds go directly towards that goal. There are 1000s of items, all neatly arranged by both category and size, with mirrors and dressing rooms available, ample free parking, and an upbeat soundtrack to which you can groove - that's more than I can say for some of the brick-and-mortar thrift stores I've shopped. Despite the dressing rooms, I suggest taking a page from Jennifer's book and shopping in a fitted tank top to easily try things on without undressing.
The best part is that nothing here is over $5. I scurried away with a pair of slingback mules, ALC silk blouse, J. Crew T-shirt Dress, two layering tee shirts, and a cool piece of jewelry for $20.
Note that this isn't a brand-name bonanza; their better items are sent straight to WHW's boutique, Déjà New. Still, if you feel like a vintage/flea-market-style fix on a Saturday morning, it's worth a pass through for a wonderful cause.
